Faculty and Teaching Staff
Storefront Academy’s unique model and culture enable teachers to decipher each child’s learning code, opening minds, uncovering possibilities, and raising expectations and aspirations. Our teachers are seasoned and passionate educators, dedicated to providing a world-class education and meeting every student where they are.
Faculty members join the Storefront family and stay for years, thanks to our:
Small class sizes and dedicated teaching assistants
Storefront Academy classes are small, and all classes in our youngest grades have a lead teacher and an assistant teacher, to help facilitate small group work and individual attention for all students.
Professional development opportunities
Storefront Academy teachers receive more than 200 hours of targeted professional development every year on dedicated professional development days, as well as at weekly professional development sessions.
Focus on critical thinking, not test prep
Storefront Academy's model fosters student academic and emotional growth, and is centered on ensuring that students become critical thinkers, not just good test takers.
Flexibility in curriculum choice and implementation
At Storefront Academy, teachers draw from a wide variety of curricular resources to best target and fit their instruction to their class needs. This flexibility allows for differentiated instruction that engages students and responds to all students' academic needs.
Strong social emotional supports for all students
Storefront Academy's model places equal emphasis on academic rigor and social emotional wellness, and provides the staff resources to help teachers meet the needs of students who are struggling in either of these areas. This includes a full-time social worker, mentors, individual volunteers and other targeted social and emotional interventions.
Competitive salary and benefits package
Storefront Academy provides generous benefits and competitive salary packages for all faculty and staff.
Storefront Academy's Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Development and Communications teams are essential to the day-to-day operations of Storefront Academy Harlem and Storefront Academy South Bronx, managing four properties, human resources for more than 60 employees, and financial reporting and fundraising for a total budget of over $5M.
